Turn Of The Season

Turn Of The Season
October 30, 2018AdminHealthy Living

As the fall begins to deepen, our bodies must adjust to the turn of the season. It is not only a time when the days grow shorter, but marks the period when we remain indoors more often than the spring and summer months. This change affects our body in many ways – physically and emotionally.

The dryness that comes with this shift in our external climate produces a plethora of respiratory challenges. Our mucous membranes become irritated and we find ourselves becoming susceptible to a variety of unsavory infections. Frequent head congestion and coughing facilitate the proliferation of illness from one person to another.  Illness prevention starts by giving your body the care and nourishment needed to adjust to our external environment. This is true on both the physical and emotional level.

With fall comes the diminishing daylight. For some, this darkness can be incredibly difficult to cope with and can cause what is known as SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder. SAD is characterized by a persistent low mood and lethargy that begins soon after the days grow shorter.  We can experience social indifference and a reduction in productivity – both of which can be damaging to personal and professional relationships.

In preparation for the darker, drier days ahead, it is important to take a moment to evaluate how you’re beginning to feel. If you notice that your sense of well-being is beginning to diminish,  know that there are options available to help you properly adjust to this turn in season.

Routine acupuncture treatments help the body maintain itself throughout the changes we experience in relation to a turn of every season – winter, spring, summer, and fall. The most effective way to yield maximum benefit from such treatments is to schedule with a licensed practitioner to review what it is you are experiencing so a proper regimen can be created to suit your body’s needs as it adjusts to the change of its external environment.
