What is Depression?
Depression is more than sadness; it is a profound and prolonged sense of emptiness and hopelessness that can completely consume a person and the quality of life that they experience. A proper evaluation by a qualified psychotherapist is often necessary to determine its presence.
When strong negative emotions combined with a general loss of interest in one’s own life occurs for more than two weeks on a consistent basis, a depressive episode may be upon you. The Anxiety and Depression Association of America estimates that over 15 million adults in the United States have experience a depressive episode in the last year.
Our body is intimately entwined with our emotions. When we experience internal dissonance within our organ systems, it can manifest through our emotional states and vice versa.
How We Can Help
First and foremost, we strongly encouraged that Depression be diagnosed by a qualified psychotherapist. If a diagnosis is given, we may work with your therapist to develop a unique treatment plan to help facilitate a more positive sense of well-being.
Acupuncturists do not make a separation between the emotional and physical body. Every organ system has associated emotions which can become imbalanced.
