Acupuncture and Neck Pain

“I’ve tried everything. This is my last resort.” This is something acupuncturists hear every week. A recent study published highlights the effectiveness of acupuncture for these type of patients.
The November 3rd issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine published a study of 517 chronic neck pain sufferers. It compared the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture and a self-care Alexander Technique to the standard care for neck pain, which involved prescription medications and physical therapy. Both the acupuncture group and the Alexander Technique group showed “significant reductions in neck pain and associated disability compared with usual care”.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s own healing response. It produces a natural anti-inflammatory effect and releases pain-relieving chemicals and endorphins.
